Nissan has unveiled plans to release two sedans, two crossovers, and two SUVs within the next five years. All four new models are expected to launch by 2020.
There’s no doubt that Nissan has been lacking in the sedan and SUV categories, says Carlos Ghosn, president, and CEO of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Motors, but this will change with the rollout of these new models.
Nissan Company Unveils Plans for New Sedans and SUVs
Nissan Company unveiled its plans for upcoming models of sedans and SUVs at a press conference on Tuesday. The car manufacturer, which is best known for producing gasoline-powered vehicles and electric cars, announced that it would be launching 2 new sedans (Car A) and 2 new SUVs (Car B) in 2016. While our electric vehicles have already been well received by consumers, we believe there is great potential in both hybrid and traditional models. Next year’s lineup will prove just how versatile our manufacturing capabilities are. said CEO Carlos Storkham.
Nissan has not yet released any information about pricing or performance figures for these vehicles. However, Car A is expected to feature an all-new engine design while Car B will feature Nissan’s current cutting-edge technology. Both models are expected to include improved safety features such as collision avoidance systems and lane assist software. Nissan also revealed that it would be releasing an updated version of its popular Altima model later in 2015 with improved fuel efficiency and performance figures as well as increased cargo space.
In addition to unveiling new products, Nissan also announced that it was expanding into new markets over the next few years including Southeast Asia and South America where demand for alternative fuel vehicles is growing rapidly. We expect to see significant growth over these coming years. added Nissan executive Bob Belton. Nissan expects that future growth will come primarily from developing countries where Nissan currently holds only a small market share. The company hopes to expand into India and China in particular after seeing rapid growth in sales of its LEAF model in those countries recently.
This announcement comes shortly after rival Toyota made similar announcements regarding future product lines earlier today at their own press conference earlier today. While Toyota is continuing its focus on hybrids, they did announce plans for several new gas powered vehicles including 3 pickup trucks and 2 minivans aimed specifically at American audiences who continue to drive more gas-guzzling vehicles than ever before despite recent increases in gas prices across North America.
Nissan Company Rogue Hybrid
The new hybrid system combines a 3.5-liter V6 engine with an electric motor, both mated to an advanced CVT transmission with FWD. The Nissan Rogue Hybrid is expected to achieve fuel economy of 33 combined MPG by using Nissan’s e-Drive technology, which produces two different drive modes:
EV mode (electric only) or Hybrid mode (combination of gas/electric power). Despite being a hybrid, it is not eligible for a federal tax credit because its MSRP falls below $40K. However, it still has some savings over comparable non-hybrid models thanks to features such as LED headlights and leather seats. It is scheduled to be released in late 2015 at a starting price of $30,000.
Nissan plans on selling around 30k units per year within North America. Rogue Sport SUV: A slightly smaller version of Nissan’s popular Rogue SUV will be released in late 2015 as well at a starting price of $20,000. It will have many similar features as other Nissan SUVs including 4WD capabilities, 7-passenger seating capacity, and an optional touchscreen navigation display with a rearview camera system built into one unit instead of separate pieces like most competitors use. Nissan plans on selling around 100k units per year within North America. Murano CrossCabriolet:
Nissan plans to release their first convertible crossover SUV in early 2016 at a starting price of $45,000. Nissan hopes that it will become another hit model similar to their Juke crossover SUV which sold very well due to unique styling and pricing. The Murano CrossCabriolet will feature all-wheel drive, a retractable hardtop roof, and 5 passenger seating capacity just like their standard Murano model. Nissan plans on selling around 50k units per year within North America.
